How are you doing? Are you finding some solace in all of this madness? These are unprecedented times and I am doing all I can to bring you useful information right now, I chatted with a Michele Delory last week, she’s a Certified KonMari & Home Organizing Consultant and has 5 Easy KonMari Approved Organizing Tips From A Pro!
1. Now is the best time to do a home spring refresh. It’s a good way to show gratitude for the things that kept us warm throughout the winter. Spring cleaning is a chance for deep cleaning, and clean what we don’t normally clean like dusting light fixtures and ceilings, wiping down walls and baseboards, steaming carpets, washing windows and drapes, vacuuming the mattress and power washing outdoor furniture. This is also when we switch heavier items with lighter items, and put winter accessories, coats and boots away (but not hidden) until next year. We also want to make sure we have a healthy home for our own well-being.
2. Pantry re-organization.
Take everything out and check what’s still good and remove what’s expired. Make sure you group similar food items together for breakfast, baking, snacks, dinner, and also oils, spices, sauces and dried goods. This is especially helpful to know what you have so you can prepare what groceries to buy and not over buy. It’s best to buy food that is good for the week and not more than that. Let’s be more responsible when shopping, and make sure we all have enough food for the greater good.
3. Create a wardrobe that is for your lifestyle today. Clean out your closet and take your entire wardrobe out and choose to keep what you love and that serves you well, let go what isn’t for the person you are today, if it doesn’t fit it’s time to let it go or make a goal to fit into it again. You can even try a capsule wardrobe like Project 333, you will save more time getting ready every day.
4. With more time now at home, you can even try doing the KonMari Method. Once you clean out your closet and deal with all your clothing, move on to other things in your home and go through the following categories: books, papers, miscellaneous items, and sentimental things and figure out what is still going to be a part of your home and life by choosing what sparks joy. Here are some ideas on how to do this.
5. Create a vision board with your partner or family. Think of your own ideal lifestyle and what goals you want to achieve this year and put those ideas onto your board. You can also write down those goals, this way you will commit to making them a reality. Even with today’s uncertainty, it’s good to create goals to work on to improve your life. *Remember to do more self-care especially when it comes to taking care of our own personal wellbeing and mental health. After deep cleaning and switching things up, relax and do some meditation or yoga, take a warm bath and disconnect from screens from time to time to avoid the latest news and anxiety.
