I’ve mixed up a ton of body scrubs in my kitchen, so many that my husband doesn’t know if I’m making dinner or cooking up a fabulous DIY recipe. This DIY Matcha Green Tea Smoothing Body Exfoliator is by far one of my fav’s. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
It’s purifying, refreshing and ultra-moisturizing and smells like a Matcha Green Tea Latte. It’s also so beneficial to the skin and has become a permanent part of my beauty routine.
Green Tea Benefits of the DIY Matcha Green Tea Smoothing Body Exfoliator
Green tea is so good for you, it’s high in an antioxidant known as polyphenols (also found in grapes and olives) which are super beneficial to the skin. A study published in a 2009 issue of “Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry” showed that when polyphenols were applied directly to the skin they protect it from sun damage and even help with skin cell turnover, resulting in younger, healthier-looking skin, and who doesn’t love that?
I wanted to really amp up this body scrub, so I combined loose green tea as well as Matcha Ninja Cold-Brew Matcha powdered green tea, which has 137 times more antioxidants than regularly brewed green tea, so your skin is literally going to suck this stuff in.
I’m not addicted to green tea, we’re just in a committed relationship!
I also wanted this scrub to have the benefits of detox since green tea has those benefits already; I added Epson salt to this recipe instead of sugar to get those benefits too.
Benefits of Epson salts
Epson salts are packed with magnesium which helps reduce inflammation and flush out toxins.
We tend to spend a lot of time on our faces, but our bodies need TLC too. Using a good scrub like this at least once a week will help keep your skin smooth, hydrated and improve circulation.
The exfoliating benefits of the scrub are so good too. When you exfoliate (gently rubbing the skin in circular motions) you are removing dead skin cells, which can make the skin look tired and sallow and revealing moist, glowing skin underneath.
I added coconut oil as the carrier mainly because it’s antibacterial and anti-fungal and an excellent moisturizer. If you don’t like coconut oil go with argan or jojoba. If you want to make this anti-ageing you can use borage seed oil.
Beauty Tip: You can use this scrub before shaving, it will soften the hair and open up the root.
Full recipe for the DIY Matcha Green Tea Smoothing Body Exfoliator
- 1 tbsp Loose organic green tea leaves
- 1 cup Epsom salt
- 2 tsp Matcha Ninja Cold-Brew Matcha
- 1/3 cup Raw, organic coconut oil
- Mix the tea leaves, powder and matcha in a bowl
- Add the coconut oil and mix well to form a thicker consistency
- Place mixture into an air-tight, sterilized jar
Recommended for: All skin types
Usage: Once a week
Make sure you do a patch test before trying any new products
You can replace the salt with sugar, but I prefer the benefits of salt for this recipe
