Eco-Friendly Entertaining Is Trending This Summer, Says Pinterest and after peeking through the list, we’ve rounded up a number of favourites!
Every year the people at Pinterest release their Summer Entertaining Trends and this summer we are seeing so many eco-friendly searches popping up, which makes us very happy!
1. Keep those picnics eco-friendly with reusable utensils
The zero waste movement seems to be booming in Canada right now. The Zero Waste Collective is one example and shows no signs of slowing down.
Our Tip: We’ve written about reducing plastic waste on The Eco Hub many times here and here and are overjoyed to see this trend pop up in so many searches. Opting for reusable utensils made from bamboo or stainless mitigates the amount of plastic heading to land and trashing our waterways!
2. Get your party on the move
We’re seeing a rise in nature getaways as people search for ways to bring their parties outdoors and into nature. This year 337 percent more people are searching for ways to experience nature.
Our Tip: If you are throwing a picnic outside, the most eco way to do it is to stay local. Picking a place that is closer to home, the Parks Canada App is a great place to start. Also pack sustainably, no plastic, please! Make sure to pick up after yourself! Leave no liter.
3. Customize your meal and toss it in a jar to keep things organized and spill free with a picnic in a jar.
The mason jar is by far one of the best things to have in your home, they can be used for anything and everything! From snacks to meals on the go and are perfect for packing a zero-waste picnic. This search is up 346 percent over the last year.
We’ve got 99 problems and mason jars solved 98 of them!
4. DIY pizza oven, OMG sign us up
Our Tip: In our 2018 Health + Wellness Trends we talked about the benefits of cooking together. “having meals together can help reinforce positive eating habits and help children develop healthy attitudes towards food. It can also be a way for people to take part in food cultures they did not grow up with.” Sounds good to us!
5. The sky’s the limit this summer as people look to the stars for some gazing good fun with stargazing parties.
How romantic is this? And what a way to celebrate the wonders of nature.
Our Tip: Pick a great location, SeaSky.org gives a calendar of things happening in the sky each month. Plan the party later in the night. Get a good telescope, you can find used ones on Craigslist or Freecycle.
Pack a few snacks, using reusables and mason jars.
