How To Hygge Your Beauty Routine

February is the perfect time of year to stay indoors and pamper yourself. Pour yourself a delicious raw-tella hot chocolate, put on your Goop-approved knit sweater and get your hygge on.

If you don’t know about “hygge” it’s the Danish concept of “coziness”, a way of life where you unwind, unplug, slow down and savor the little things.

The New Yorker puts it perfectly, “winter is the most hygge time of year. It is candles, nubby woolens, shearling slippers, woven textiles, pastries, blond wood, sheepskin rugs, lattes with milk-foam hearts, and a warm fireplace.” Sounds amazing right?

Pronounced “hoo-guh,” the word is said to have no direct translation in English, though “cozy” comes close. It derives from a sixteenth-century Norwegian term, hugga, meaning “to comfort” or “to console,” which is related to the English word “hug.”

So why not add a little Hygge to your skincare routine, with products that will give you an instant dose of comfort.

Instead of a super quick cleanse or five minute face, a hygge-fied beauty routine means you slow it down and spend time enjoying your products.

1. Give your skin a hug!

These cloths do more than just remove makeup; they actually gently cleanse the skin, unlike conventional makeup wipes that strip the skin of their natural oils. They smell beautiful too and are packed with vitamin B, C and E. Simply use one cloth to give your face a cleanse after a long day, so relaxing and so rejuvenating. Take a few extra minutes here and give your face a mini massage. Such a treat!

2. Mini at home facial – yes, please!

After you wet your face with warm water add some yogurt or honey to the powder and gently rub into the face. The DIY component of this scrub makes me love it even more! Exfoliating is such an import part of any beauty routine and will help turn your skin around in an instant.

3. Get Hygge with it!

Laurel Whole Plant Organic Eye Serum

Slow down and really enjoy the little things in life like this miracle cocktail in a bottle. If you haven’t already tried Laurel’s products, I highly recommend you do. This eye serum is a rich blend of Bilberry, Fennel, Licorice, Nettle, Chamomile, and Rosehips all working together to reduce dark circles and puffiness. Your eyes will love you for this!

4. Butter me up!

Love Fresh Body Butter

Whether it’s a pastry or a body butter, it’s part of getting your Hygge on! And there is not a better way than slathering your body with a butter like this one. Decadent, fresh, rich and intensely hydrating, just what the body needs.

5. Soak it up!

What else screams warm and cozy more than soaking in the tub? Taking a bath in the winter will help to leave the skin feeling revived and replenished. Sea or Epson salts will detox and soothe tired muscles. Run a hot bath, light a candle and steep for 30 mins. Bliss!

6. Get Scent-ual

Using essential oils in the home will help relax you and add a beautiful natural fragrance to your space. Sit back, relax and enjoy.

7. Light me up, baby!

There is nothing comforting about synthetic fragrances. Candles made with nontoxic ingredients offer up a cozy vibe with no negative impact on your health. Light ‘em up when if you are soaking in the tub to increase the hygge factor.

8. Love yourself!

Take time to reflect on the good and the bad. Take stock of what you have. Be grateful. Be kind. And above all love yourself, for who you are not who you think you should be.
