A few years ago I took an organic Skincare Formulation Course with Formula Botanica in the UK. I learned so much about how to do it right. In my experience, the best formulas are always the simplest ones! This is How To Make An Organic Sugar Body Scrub!
I love this recipe, it’s super simple, uses only three AMAZING, effective ingredients.
Organic Cane Sugar: Naturally prevents the growth of bacteria and makes an excellent exfoliator, it’s course and helps to get rid of dry, dead skin cells.
Exfoliating can really help prepare your skin for the sun. Sugar is also packed with alpha hydroxy acids which work well to eliminate that dry skin.
This scrub also aids in increased circulation. I’ve used it before on my tush and the back of my legs with a dry brush. It’s the tiny granules that help blood flow and invigorate the skin.
Skin can get really dry in the summer, using a good body scrub can help make creams and sunblock work more effectively because there are no dead skin cells in the way.
And my fav benefit, smoother skin all over! YASSSSS! Who does not love that?
Organic Coconut Oil: I chose coconut oil because I love the smell, it’s like the beach in a jar. But coconut oil is also naturally antibacterial and anti-fungal and makes an excellent moisturizer. Studies have shown that when applied topically, virgin organic coconut oil can aid in healing the skin, and increased hydration. Coconut oil is relatively high in medium-chain fatty acids.
The medium-chain fatty acids in coconut oil have antimicrobial properties that can help protect against harmful microorganisms.
This is especially important for skin health, as many types of skin infections, including acne, cellulitis, folliculitis and athlete’s foot, are caused by bacteria or fungi.
Applying coconut oil directly to the skin may prevent the growth of these microorganisms.
Organic Raw Honey: Oh honey how I love thee! Honey is an effective moisturizer, it can help fight aging and bacteria. It’s loaded with antioxidants, nutrients and healing compounds and a ton of active phytonutrient antioxidants and enzymes for enhanced benefits. There are a ton of studies to support the benefits of honey for the skin.
Optional: Essential oils. You can add 5-10 drop of your fav essential oil, like lavender, but honestly, this recipe is so good with the three ingredients listed above!
