Our skin is amazing. It’s alive and dynamic and it protects our body from so many things. Toxins, pollution, and sweat, just to name a few.
Our skin is also a reflection of what we eat and drink, so feeding it the good stuff is the key to supple, hydrated, beautiful skin.
But, so many of the products that we use to help our skin are actually making it worse. That’s thanks to cheap, petroleum-based synthetic chemicals that are used in conventional skincare.
Plant oils, which are growing in popularity, are great aids when it comes to healing the skin.
For oily skin, that’s prone to acne and blackheads: Lemongrass Oil
Lemongrass is an effective astringent, that has anti-fungal and antimicrobial properties.
The Ritual: Add a few drops to some water and apply it directly to the area using a cotton ball. Leave overnight.
If you have dry skin, it’s not the best solution for you.
For clogged pores: Lavender Oil
We know it’s great to help reduce stress and relax us right? But it’s also, a fantastic antiseptic that will help keep pores that are clogged clear.
The Ritual: Add a few drops to your favourite moisturizer daily or put a bit on a cotton ball, dab your face, then apply your moisturizer.
For pussy zits: Calendula Oil
From the Marigold flower, this effective mild anti-viral oil will help to cleanse the skin from free radicals and bacteria.
The Ritual: Put a small amount directly on the zit, it will be zapped away in no time.
For blemishes and marks left by squeezing pimples: Tea Tree Oil
Red and inflamed due to too much squeezing? Tea tree oil will help reduce both. The oil will penetrate the skin and help to unblock the sebaceous glands, disinfecting pores and drying out pimples and blackheads.
People who suffer from chronic blemishes and who use benzoyl peroxide have found that tea tree oil does the same job but stings and burns less.
The Ritual: Add some water to a cotton ball to dilute it slightly.
Wipe your face, then rinse. Do this daily.
For blind pimples know as Papules: Raspberry seed oil
This is magic in a bottle for those blind, painful pimples and hard lesions under the skin that are due to a build-up of dirt, bacteria, and clogged pores, they never form a head and look terrible. It’s packed full of vitamin E and A and omega 3’s and 6 fatty acids.
This oil will help constrict the blood vessels which will reduce redness and inflammation.
The Ritual: Apply directly to the skin.
Small amounts, a few drops will do.
Make sure you buy the organic oil as conventional berries are filled with pesticides
Raspberry Seed Oil can be hard to find in smaller markets, as an alternative try the Clinical Luxury By nature Serum ($35)
