Parents, Finally A Healthy Skincare Brand For Your Teens

Parents, Finally A Non-Toxic Skincare Brand For Your Teens!

Let’s face it, being a teenager is complicated enough without having to worry about skin issues. These are some top ways teens can improve their skin, advice from a formulator! More on her a little later.

But first:

1. Wash your face before going to bed

2. Wash your hair

3. Wash your pillowcase once a week- WHY?

Pillowcases should be washed at least once/week as residual makeup, dirt, bacteria, oil can build up on the pillowcase (not to mention sweat as well) especially if teens aren’t regularly washing their face or hair before bed.  We also recommend that fragrance-free, non-toxic detergent is used (and no fabric softeners).

4. Moisturize- dry skin can overproduce oil

5. Resist popping zits

6. Watch your diet! Junk food is bad for your skin!

These are simple things we can all do, no matter our age!

Back to being a teenager, it’s tough! You are trying to balance your studies and social life; you have newfound freedom, cute boys hanging around and overflowing hormones!

It’s quite the ride, remember those days! I do…all too well!

Then comes another major hurdle…skincare!

Well,  Canadian Green Beauty brand Thirsty Naturals is going to quench that hurdle!

Okay, I know what you are thinking; the simple suggestion of skincare for teens may seem a little shocking considering all the ads geared to woman, mostly making us feel we are not good enough!

But! There are good things that can come from teaching teens a solid skincare regime that will set them up for a lifetime of good skin.

Enter Thirsty Naturals, the brainchild of Jennifer Carlson, one of the co-founders of the popular baby food Baby Gourmet.

Now the parent of a teen and a pre-teen, she’s turned her focus from food to face, saying, “Baby Gourmet has become a trusted Canadian household brand, so yes, I believe we have achieved great success in feeding babies and making parents happy.”

The main goal of Thirsty Naturals is to provide parents with healthy alternatives for their kids.

“My children have always inspired me and since I have a 14-year-old daughter and 12-year-old son, this group of consumers became very relevant. This 9-19 age group is underserved in the green beauty space so I thought it was important to make something for them.” She says.

Many products that teens are using contain ingredients made from petrochemicals,   pore-blocking silicones, drying alcohols and even hormone disrupters. Not good!

Foaming Face Wash: One to add to your routine every morning and night, this wash couldn’t be simpler to use. If you like products that give instant results, this one is for you. Skin feels clean and prepped ready for a light moisturizer. Bye-bye blackheads!

Daily Moisturizer: With a powerful, refreshing scent, this daily must-have is packed full of ingredients, like black cumin, that reduces inflammation and regulates oil production. It has an impressive matte finish, so say goodbye to that shine!

Spot Treatment: Easy-peasy to apply and don’t judge, I tried this and loved it!!! I had a chin breakout and this was my savior. It’s alcohol-free, which is super important for optimal skincare, especially for teens. Alcohol-free Witchhazel removes excess oil with natural astringents that are effective in their ability to kill bacteria and rid skin of trapped moisture and oils.

All-Over Wash: I love the idea of offering teens, especially boys, one product that can be used from head to toe. It smells amazing and left my skin feeling refreshed, healthy and clean!

Dry Shampoo: Good for you too, not just your teen. I’ve used one bottle already. It smells so good you could eat it. It goes on very well with the applicator and here’s a pro tip, apply it at night! It’s amazing!

Deodorant: If you’ve lived with a teen you know a good deo is key! But most deodorants are packed with parabens, triclosan, phthalates, propylene glycol, and aluminum, not good for any of us!  It has a light orange scent and I found it held up, even after a hotter than hell Yoga class!

I really enjoyed using these products! I gave my co-workers daughter the range to try, she’s 12 and loved it. Waiting on a quote from here will add it soon.

Parents, Finally A Healthy Skincare Brand For Your Teens

It’s great to connect with brands and have them share their stories with us. Here’s what Jennifer (the founder)  had to say when we chatted.

CB: What inspired you to start a brand for teens?

JC: I was inspired by my own teenagers when I was looking to purchase clean/natural products for them and couldn’t find anything I could feel good about buying or other natural products they would be willing to use. I could see there was nothing in the market in clean beauty made for teenagers, so I created it.

CB: You’ve kept all your manufacturing in Canada? Why was that important?

JC: I love to support local and strongly believe in the quality and integrity of our Canadian partner.

CB: You have teen ambassadors, can you tell me a bit more about them?

JC: Our market is teenagers so in my view it’s really important to have their insight into everything we do. We have a board of over 25 teen ambassadors, both girls, and boys from ages 9-19, who weigh in on all of our product innovation and approvals, social media content, branding, and packaging design. If they are going to be using our products, I want both boys and girls to feel like it is made for them and the best way to do that is with their direct involvement.

CB: What is the future of green beauty in your opinion?

JC: Green beauty is the future. The same way “clean food”  is leading organic growth in the food industry, clean beauty is driving new sales in the beauty category. Which means consumers are becoming more educated about what they are putting in and on their bodies. They will continue to demand quality, non-toxic ingredients and manufacturers will continue to have to respond.

Thanks, Jennifer. Can’t wait to see what’s next!

Guys, I really LOVE the transparency of this brand. The origin and function of every ingredient are listed on their website to help you and your teen understand what is going on and into their body.

And don’t you just love the branding too! Another great Candaind brand,eh?!
